Judicial Nominations and the Moral Landscape of our Nation
The United States is at a critical moral decision point in history. The judicial nominations that will take place during the next presidency will profoundly impact our nation. We can choose morality or immorality. Life or death. Blessing or cursing. A Church leader said, "The vote we cast on November 4th will do more to shape the culture we give our children and grandchildren than any other vote of our lifetime!"
The implications of this election on November 4 are profound. The
differences between the candidates are huge and the direction in which
they will lead our nation is radically different. This election is more
important than any other election in recent history.
Perhaps
more important than any other issue is the judicial philosophy they
each have and what types of justices they would nominate. The judicial
branch of our government has changed the moral landscape of our nation
in profoundly negative ways in the past 40 years. The next president
will most likely choose two, and potentially more, Supreme Court
judges. The types of judges that they have vowed to nominate couldn't
be further apart in ideology.
Obama has vowed to nominate
judges like Stevens & Ginsburg who would further cement abortion on
demand, homosexual rights, the silencing of Evangelical Christians, and
the view that the Constitution is an evolving document. In short, they
would legislate their morality from the bench.
McCain, on the
other hand, has vowed to elect justices like Roberts, Alito, Scalia,
and Thomas, who have consistently tried to uphold the value of life
from conception until natural death, Christian morality, religious
expression, and a strict constructionist view of the Constitution. They
view their role is to simply interpret the origianal intent of the
Constitution, not add to, take away from it.
