Religious Freedom Day, January 16, 2009
This Friday January 16th is Religious Freedom Day. It commemorates the passage of Thomas Jefferson's Virginia Statute on Religious Freedom in 1786. Each year, the president calls upon Americans to "observe this day through appropriate events and activities in homes, schools, and places of worship."
Church Members Threatened with Citation for Sharing Gospel in Park
A group of Christians in North Carolina were threatened by a park ranger for talking about Jesus in public. Though we often hear the gospel of tolerance preached, it seems that evangelism is one thing that is becoming increasingly intolerable. Groups like Liberty Counsel are helping defend Christians' rights to religious freedom.
Oregon Right to Life Preparing for FOCA
Protecting the rights of the unborn will become increasingly difficult in 2009. Unprecedented attacks are coming against the pro-life movement at the state and Federal level. Oregon Right to Life is raising awareness about these attacks. Please sign their petition and attend their pro-life rally on January 18th.
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) Will Be Devastating
If you haven't heard of FOCA before, you will in 2009. The Freedom of Choice Act is one of the first pieces of legislation that the new administration will try to push through. It has the potential to destroy every pro-life achievement made since Roe v Wade in 1973.
Newsweek's Interpretation of the Bible and Gay Marriage
Newsweek recently decided to reject the traditional Biblical definition of marriage held by 50 Million Evangelicals and promote their own interpretation of Scripture. News organizations are becoming increasingly hostile towards a Christian worldview.
Church Continues Slide Towards Relativism
A recent Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that 65% of Christians believe there are multiple paths to God. This demonstrates the continuing worldview crisis within the body of Christ, and highlights the need for solid biblical teaching. Instead of influencing the culture around them, Christians are becoming increasingly secular. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
What Does "Tolerance" Look Like?
Christians need to see what is taking place behind the scenes regarding the homosexual agenda. In California, an elderly woman was recently assaulted, mocked and ridiculed by a mob of pro-homosexual marriage activists. Her "crime"? Simply trying to explain her viewpoint that marriage should be between one man and one woman. This is the type of "tolerance" Christians receive from the pro-homosexual community.
Be Prepared for More Persecution of a Biblical Worldview
Many in the Church are warning of increased persecution towards Christians and a Biblical worldview in the months and years to come as the most liberal, anti-Christian, leadership takes hold. Please be in prayer for the body of Christ to be professors of Truth in an increasingly hostile culture. 1) Pray. 2) Be rooted in Christ alone. 3) Speak the Truth in love.
Judicial Nominations and the Moral Landscape of our Nation
The United States is at a critical moral decision point in history. The judicial nominations that will take place during the next presidency will profoundly impact our nation. We can choose morality or immorality. Life or death. Blessing or cursing. A Church leader said, "The vote we cast on November 4th will do more to shape the culture we give our children and grandchildren than any other vote of our lifetime!"
Rick Warren Endorses CA's Prop 8 Marriage Amendment
We applaud Rick Warren's recent endorsement of Proposition 8, California's marriage amendment. I pray that more pastors will take an open stand in encouraging their congregations to vote for legislation which promotes biblical morality and against legislation that is contrary to it. Legalized homosexual marriage is being used to persecute Christians and we must lovingly take a stand, in unity, or we will lose our freedom of religious expression.
